It's been 29 years since Everybody Loves Raymond first premiered in 1996, and while the comedy is still extremely beloved, Brad Garrett confirms that there won't be any sort of reboot in the future.
"I'm just saying that because that's something that Ray and Phil [Rosenthal, the show's creator] have always said," the actor explained to PEOPLE. "There is no show without the parents. They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn't be right to the audiences or to the loyal fan base. And it was about those two families, and you can't get around that."
Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, who played Frank and Marie Barone, both sadly passed away after the show came to an end in 2005. Boyle died on December 12, 2006, and Roberts died on April 17, 2016.
"I know [the reboot] won't happen, but 30 years later, I got very lucky to get on that bus. I'm very grateful," he expressed.
The series also starred Ray Romano, Patricia Heaton, Monica Horan, Madylin Sweeten, Sullivan Sweeten, and Sawyer Sweeten.
Romano has said that he isn't interested in a reboot because "I'm just a little protective of Everybody Loves Raymond. Just because it was very personal to me," He continued to mention in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, "I mean, it was based on my life and I was such a part of the creative side of it and all."
Meanwhile, Heaton, who played Debra Barone, commented, "It was just sort of perfection — and you don't wanna mess with perfection. You know, we've lost so many cast members, you couldn't reboot it because it won't be the same show."
Everybody Loves Raymond ran for 9 seasons and had a total of 210 episodes.
