BTS is officially going to perform at the 52nd American Music Awards on May 25. The news has already got ARMY going crazy as anticipation builds around what could be one of the most talked-about performances of the night. With the global superstars back on the AMAs stage, the stakes are already sky high.

The group will make a special appearance at the award show on Monday. The AMA 2026 will be telecast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Memorial Day. BTS is also among the nominees this year, with a nomination for Artist of the Year.

“ARMY, get ready! The K-pop group is also nominated for Artist of the Year, making them the only K-pop act in the category. “@bts.bighitofficial is making a special appearance LIVE at the #AMAs,” organisers wrote on Instagram.

This performance is especially significant because the AMAs were a huge part of BTS’s rise in the United States. The last time BTS appeared as a full group on a live awards show was in 2022 at the 64th Grammy Awards in Las Vegas, where they performed their chart-topping song, ‘Butter’. It marks their first award show appearance in four years.

The group returning to the American Music Awards stage is extremely meaningful for many reasons.

BTS’ long history with the American Music Awards makes the comeback even bigger

The group performed at the American Music Awards in 2017, becoming the first Korean act to do so, making it a turning point in their global popularity. BTS has won 12 American Music Awards, making history as the first Asian act to win the coveted Artist of the Year award in 2021. They have also consistently won categories such as Favourite Pop Duo or Group and Favourite Social Artist throughout the years.

Additionally, the group is nominated for three categories at the AMA this year. They also won artist of the year, song of the summer for ‘Swim’, and best K-Pop artist. BTS’s 2021 artist of the year win made them the first group to win the top prize since One Direction in 2014-15. That year, BTS also broke Taylor Swift’s three-year hold on the award.

BTS has previously won several top awards in its career. This includes multiple Billboard Music Awards, Daesangs at the MAMA Awards and Golden Disc Awards, and Grammy nominations. The group also earned the South Korean government’s Order of Cultural Merit for contributing to spreading Korean culture worldwide. They have also broken records in album sales, streaming, and social media influence, cementing their place as one of the biggest music groups in the world.

In many ways, BTS’ return to the AMA stage feels like a full-circle moment for the group and its fans. The AMAs helped introduce BTS to mainstream American audiences, and now the group is returning as one of the biggest music acts in the world. With BTS’ long history, expectations are naturally massive for what could be another unforgettable chapter for the group.
