Cameron Diaz's retirement from acting eventually became just a hiatus. Granted, it was a lengthy one, as Diaz did sit out from 2014 until this year. She returned to the screen with the aptly-titled "Back in Action," a Netflix two-hander with Jamie Foxx. While the action-comedy was not critically well-received, it was a hit for Netflix. Given that success, Diaz and Netflix are reuniting to run it back again, this time with another action-comedy.
The movie is called "Bad Day" and it's directed by Jake Szymanski. He's a former Funny or Die and "SNL" director, who also directed the critically-acclaimed show "Jury Duty."
"Bad Day" is about a single mom who, in the midst of the "worst day of her life," fights tooth and nail to keep a promise to her daughter. The movie is described as a "comedic version" of "Falling Down," which is a bit of a misnomer as "Falling Down" is a dark comedy in and of itself. One presumes they mean "Bad Day" will be a lighter comedy, but we shall see.
"Bad Day" is shooting this fall, so expect it on Netflix in 2026. That would make 2026 a big year for Diaz, as "Shrek 5" is also slated to arrive.
