Camila Cabello-led 'Cinderella' swaps theatrical release for Amazon Prime Video release

Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!

Just like that, you don't have to leave home to watch the forthcoming Cinderella musical remake.

Deadline first reported the pivot from a theatrical release to Amazon Prime Video: "No premiere date yet, but the film will premiere later this year. Sony Pictures had once dated it for July, but the pandemic and theatrical windows are still uncertain, especially in Europe and Latin America. That triggered a deal that is similar in construct to previous ones the studio has made with streamers on films."

Fifth Harmony member turned bonafide solo pop star Camila Cabello will make her acting debut as the classic Disney princess. Cinderella was written by James Corden with the screenplay by Kay Cannon (30 Rock, Pitch Perfect), who also served as director.

Filming in the U.K. was halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but resumed last August:

Even aside from Cabello, the cast is star-studded. Billy Porter will play the Fairy Godmother, Idina Menzel the Stepmother, and Minnie Driver will portray Queen Beatrice. Corden, Pierce Brosnan, Nicholas Galitzine and John Mulaney also have parts.

Megan Armstrong (@megankarmstrong) is a writer with previous work appearing in places such as Billboard, Bleacher Report, GQ and others. She's most interested in writing about people and how they live their lives, through the framework of music, entertainment and sports.
