Can I get a boar sandwich with lettuce and a side of deep-fried frog legs and bat wings, please? In Chopped Up, you will be in charge of running a new food shop for the interesting “locals.” But little do they know that there’s a secret menu that only you have knowledge of. They’d better hope that they aren’t on that list.

Chopped Up By An Assassin

In a land filled with bizarre creatures and strange entities, what better way to immerse yourself in the culture than to open a food shack serving local favorites? This establishment welcomes creatures of all kinds and delivers impeccable service. With your frog sous-chef stirring the potion pot, you will be taking orders, cooking meals, delivering dishes, and cashing out. Make sure the boar steak isn’t too rare or overcooked! You don’t want to kill the customers…well.

Next to your menu are wanted posters that act as your hit list. Yes, you aren’t just a small food shack owner, but an assassin in deep cover assigned to eliminate certain beings. Gifted with a shotgun, dynamite, and poison, your boss sends a messenger bird that gives you daily targets, introduces new menu items, and updates you on your mission’s progress. You must eliminate the daily targets before your shift ends.

Of course, with every elimination, you need to keep up appearances. Keep your station and lobby blood-and-gore-free! Once the target is neutralized, grab your mop and dispose of all the pieces. You need to make sure there’s not a single speck of the creature left before the guards come in for an “early” lunch. You wouldn’t want to end up like your targets now, would ya?

Blowing The Customers Away (Literally)

In Chopped Up, there is an assortment of wacky, creepy, and funny creatures walking into the lobby…well, and one that crashes through the wall. Each resident has a different way to order, and some will strike up a conversation. They can shed some light on how the community is reacting to the serial disappearances, and a few of them can ask you questions beyond placing orders.

It’s important to read the hit list and keep your eyes out for those marked by your boss. Two posters will be nailed next to the menu, each featuring a silhouetted figure and the color they have on. It’s a match-and-kill sorta deal where you need to be sure that’s the marked creature. Don’t just go shooting everyone that’s on your hit list. Follow the killing method at the bottom of the posters: gun, poison, or dynamite. Yeah, they provide you with dynamite…they never said you were a discreet assassin.

Story With Options

Chopped Up has a few options that can alter the story, based entirely on how you perform both of your jobs. Customers will place orders and/or ask unexpected questions. They can benefit you or hinder you as the story progresses. The options can boil down to killing the wrong creature or serving bad food, which can lead to a bad reputation in the community. Being an assassin is stressful enough, so don’t go gun-slinging at everyone or over-frying orders.

Servin’ and Killin’

Chopped Up is available for $4.99 on Steam and for free on itch.io, but you can donate to the developer.
Dekaizen Studios LLC. This game is a wacky and delicious combo of a food simulator that has a dark undertone. The graphics are decent, the animation is nice, and the story is a creepy delight. If you like what you’ve read, check out Total Apex Entertainment for more gaming reviews!
