Chris Pratt's "Garfield" movie is getting a sequel

Chris Pratt will be returning to voice the famed lasagna aficionado Garfield in the next Garfield movie. To which you might say, "You're mistaking Chris Pratt for Bill Murray. It's Bill Murray who voiced Garfield in the Garfield movies." Our response would be that, yes, Murray did voice Garfield not once, but twice, on the silver screen, but Pratt took on the role of Monday's top feline critic for a movie that came out during the 2024 movie season. Seriously. There was a trailer and everything!

Samuel L. Jackson voiced Garfield's estranged father Vic. Seriously. "The Garfield Movie" got bad reviews, but it also barely made a blip culturally. We will grant you that, since it only cost $60 million to make, turned plenty of profit in generating $257.2 million. Domestically, though, it made $91.9 million. That yielded a 27th-place finish in the domestic box office for 2024. A family movie featuring a famous character that hired a big-name actor like Chris Pratt for the lead role likely expected to do better.

Evidently everybody was happy enough to give it another go, though. "The Garfield Movie" was profitable, even if it wasn't a hit. If they can keep the budget around the same level and maybe avoid trying to fight in the arena of the summer film, another Pratt-led film could do sufficiently, even if the cultural interest will likely be marginal.

It doesn't seem Nermal was in the first movie, at least. So there's something for the sequel.
