
The cable news ratings for the week of June 15 are in, and the numbers for CNN, MS NOW, and Fox News are mostly down big-time since this week last year. The daily World Cup matches may be to blame for the decline in cable news viewership, as FS1, which is airing the games, won the week in cable news primetime viewership.
During primetime, Fox News averaged 2.273 million total viewers and 202,000 in the key adults 25-54 demo. Compared to the week prior, the network was up +1% in total viewers and +2% in the demo. MS NOW brought in an average of 1.068 million primetime viewers and 88,000 in the key demo, which is up +8% in total viewers and down -18% in demo viewers compared to the previous week.
Finally, CNN’s average primetime total viewership for last week was 642,000, with 95,000 in the 25-54 demo. This put them up +5% in total viewers and down -4% in the key demo compared to the week of June 8.
Fox News’ total day viewing averaged 1.407 million in total viewers and 130,000 in the adults demo, which was down -7% and -11%, respectively, from the prior week. Total day viewership at MS NOW averaged 655,0000 viewers and 56,000 in the demo, up +3% and down -13$, respectively, from the June 8 week. For total day at CNN, the average was 456,000 total viewers and 59,000 in the key demo. Compared to the previous week, the network was up +2% in total day viewers and down -11% in the key demo viewership for total day.
Compared to this same time period one year ago, Fox News is down -34% in total viewers and down -57% in the adults demo viewership for primetime, and down -30% in total viewers and -51% demo viewers for total day. MS NOW is down -1% in total primetime viewers and -25% in key demo primetime viewers compared to this week a year ago. However, the network saw +3% gains in total day viewers, while also dropping -16% in total day demo viewers compared to last year.
In comparison to last year, CNN was down -23% in total primetime viewers and -54% in demo primetime viewers, and down -15% in total day viewers and -47% in the demo for total day viewership.
