Congratulations are in order for CNN’s Abby Phillip, who has announced that she’s expecting her second child with her husband, Marcus Richardson.
“Here he comes! We are so excited to announce that Baby boy Richardson will be joining our family soon. Marcus, Naomi and I cannot wait to be a family of four,” Phillip wrote on Instagram.
The 37-year-old news anchor married cybersecurity consultant Richardson in May 2018. The couple announced they were expecting their first child in 2021, and Phillip gave birth to a baby girl, Naomi, in August 2021.
In her latest Instagram post, Phillip credited in vitro fertilization (IVF) for her second pregnancy. “Throughout this process, I’ve really learned the power of trusting in God’s timing. It can be so hard when so want something so much— but you want it on your schedule,” she wrote.
“Yet, everything happens for a reason. And I’m grateful that God chose this moment to answer our prayers. Like so many families, this is possible because of IVF. But it’s not easy. And those of you who are still waiting, my heart is with you,” Phillip continued.
She concluded, “Every chapter in this motherhood journey has taught me that I can do so much more than I ever imagined—this one is no exception.”
Phillip made the announcement in partnership with People, whom she told, “We are overjoyed to be expanding our family! Naomi is already preparing to be an excellent big sister to the little boy who will join us later this year.”
The CNN NewsNight host described the process as “challenging,” both “emotionally and physically,” but her family ultimately “arrived at a beautiful place.”
Phillip’s friends and fans jumped into the comments to congratulate her on the happy news, including daytime talk show host Tamron Hall, who wrote, “Congratulations” alongside many love heart emojis.
MS NOW host Symone Sanders-Townsend wrote, “Amazing Monday morning news.”
The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin, who welcomed her first child in February, added, “Yay!! Congrats!!”
CNN’s The Situation Room co-host Pamela Brown wrote, “The BEST news!!! So thrilled for y’all.”
