HBO’s The Penguin ended up as one of the best shows of 2024. And even though HBO designed it as a one-off, fans want more. However, so far, there’s no official news regarding a second season of The Batman spin-off, despite fan demand. But recently, Comic Book (via Deadline ) caught up with star Colin Farrell, who talked about Oz Cobb’s potential return in a new series, and just how The Penguin leads into The Batman – Part II. Here’s what he had to say, when asked if he would bet for or against a second season:
Oh, I don’t know. I have a bit of a, generally speaking, I have a bit of a negativity bias. Apparently, I’ve been told by various people close to me. So I would say I would bet against, but not by much. [The Penguin] conveniently worked that the death at the end of The Batman and the devastation within Gotham opened up a power vacuum that then Oz could try and capitalize on. That was perfect for the parallel eight hours that we had. And then [The Batman Part II] will pick up, whatever, a few weeks after the show ended. But I kind of bet against, but not by a wide mark.
At least now we know that the second chapter in Matt Reeves’ saga picks up right where The Batman left off. Give or take a few months that is. Which will be wild, as DC Studios and Warner Bros. have scheduled the film to arrive in theaters in 2027. So, a full five years after the first film. We’re just going to chalk up everyone visibly aging half a decade to those harsh Gotham City winters. The Batman – Part II begins filming in Spring, 2026, with an October 1, 2027 release date.
