Common breaks silence on split from Tiffany Haddish: 'We weren't feeding the relationship'

Common is keeping it real about what caused the split from Tiffany Haddish.

The Emmy, Grammy and Oscar winner broke his silence while visiting on Fox Soul's Hollywood Unlocked with Jason Lee Uncensored:

Common began by praising Haddish as "one of the best people I've met in life" and "one of the best-hearted and most authentic and caring people that I've met in life."

"That's what made me love her and be in love with her and want to be in a relationship with her and grow with her," the 49-year-old said. "It probably was the most mature relationship I have been in ... meaning, the communication, the respect, just all around."

Common explained that the former couple did well navigating the pandemic together, especially since he was used to not spending as much close, quality time with his past girlfriends because of his career.

"Once Tiffany and I got back on the move, it really didn't allow for us to spend as much time and put as much energy into our relationship," he reasoned. "I don't think the love really dispersed. I just think it was just, like, we weren't feeding the relationship."

Common emphasized that because both he and Haddish are so career-driven and "care about our crafts and what we do," there wasn't enough energy left over to give to each other. He specified that it was "essentially" a mutual decision to end their romantic relationship in order to "still continue to love each and be there for each other."

Last Friday (Dec. 3), Common took to Instagram to wish Haddish a happy 42nd birthday:

People first reported their breakup on Nov. 29, citing an insider who echoed Common's above sentiment: "They are never in the same city together, and both of them are just too busy for a serious relationship."
