Conan O'Brien joins 'Toy Story 5' cast as new character Smarty Pants

When the original Toy Story film hit theaters in 1995, we couldn’t imagine that it would make such a massive cultural impact. Millennial kids fell in love with the story of Andy and his band of toys, including Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and more. Now, thirty years later, we are gearing up for a fifth film to add to this ongoing franchise. What will this new movie bring and which voice actors will be a part of this new adventure? Well, we do know that Conan O’Brien is joining the cast of Toy Story 5 as a new character named Smarty Pants.

According to Deadline, Disney and Pixar made the big announcement during the Consumer Products portion of Disney’s Licensing Expo presentation in May 2025.

O’Brien himself took to Instagram to gush about the news in a video. “Isn’t that crazy? Legendary franchise,” O’Brien said. “These films are amazing. I can’t believe this!”

Ever the funny man, he joked that he really wanted to play the role of Woody. But, of course, we know that role still and forever will belong to Tom Hanks. The same goes for Buzz Lightyear as Tim Allen, even though Chris Evans did voice the character in 2022’s Lightyear film.

In Toy Story 5, Buzz, Woody, and Jessie find themselves competing with electronics to keep kids’ attention. I’d dare say social media and YouTube will be culprits in this film. That’s pretty darn relevant in today’s world. And, with Conan O’Brien’s very lively voice joining the Toy Story 5 cast as Smarty Pants, it will be a good time for all. We are so glad he found a friend after all.

Toy Story 5 will hit theaters on June 19, 2026.
