It's one of the more-unexpected, more-intriguing projects out there. Quentin Tarantino famously wrote and directed the insta-classic "Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood," but also wrote a spinoff film. However due to his own self-imposed limitation on how many more movies he will direct, he set the spinoff aside. However, Brad Pitt convinced Tarantino to allow somebody else to direct it. The film is focused on Pitt's character Cliff Booth, the role that won him his Oscar.
The script hasn't been handed over to some schlub, though. David Fincher jumped on the project to direct it. You know, the guy who directed "The Social Network" and "Zodiac." Fincher and Pitt also has a long, successful working relationship. They've collaborated on "Se7en," "Benjamin Button," and "Fight Club." Now, the two are working together on this Cliff Booth movie for Netflix, and it's starting production this summer.
Now, Scott Caan and Elizabeth Debicki have joined the film in unknown roles. In fact, basically nothing is known about the movie. The Hollywood Reporter cited an unnamed source who said, "This film is more secretive than 'Star Wars'."
Caan, the son of the late James Caan, has mostly worked in television, but he also was part of the "Ocean's" ensemble alongside Brad Pitt. Debicki is a talented actress, but also the kind of person who when James Gunn needed somebody to play the high priestess of an alien species that has striving for perfection through genetic engineering, he cast Debicki. Her most-famous role came as Diana on "The Crown," which she won an Emmy for. We're pretty sure Diana wasn't pushing 6'3'' like Debicki, but that's acting for you.
Caan and Debicki don't add a ton to the intrigue around this Fincher film, but they are notable actors, and they certainly aren't primed to detract from the movie by any means.
