Elizabeth Holmes Documentary Trailer Leaves Viewers Bewildered

The camera pans out to show Holmes on a sofa, her head turned toward Fielder as she rocks her baby daughter with her foot. The trailer ends with the caption, “In Theaters This October.”

Fans jumped into the comments to share their reactions, with many confused and freaked out by the trailer.

“This is the scariest film trailer I’ve ever seen. She is legit insane,” wrote one YouTube commenter.

“Holy hell, every dangerous predator instinct in me went off when she was speaking,” said another.

“There’s more tension here than in most horror movies these days omg,” another added.

“Step aside, Inde Navarratte, Elizabeth Holmes might take the throne for the scariest person in a film this year,” one fan wrote, referring to the horror movie hit Obsession.

Another joked, “You have to be really weird to unnerve me more than Nathan Fielder while being in a room with Nathan Fielder…”

“The trailer was more unsettling than any horror movie I’ve watched,” said one user.

One fan quipped, “They better make the popcorn buckets be Theranos testing machines.”

“This was genuinely one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. Not being even a little ironic,” added another.

“I’m frightened yet utterly intrigued by this documentary. What a wonderful teaser!” another wrote.

Holmes founded Theranos in 2003 and claimed the company could perform detailed blood tests with just small volumes of blood, such as from a fingerprick. The company was valued at around $9 billion until fraud accusations emerged in 2015.

In 2018, Holmes and former Theranos chief operating officer Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani were charged by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for raising $700 million from investors through exaggerated claims about the company’s blood-testing technology. A federal grand jury later indicted Holmes and Balwani on fraud charges.

The trial ended in January 2022, with Holmes convicted of defrauding investors. She was sentenced to serve 11 years and 3 months at Federal Prison Camp, Bryan, beginning on May 30, 2023. In addition, she and Balwani were ordered to pay $452 million in restitution to victims.

According to Vanity Fair, Fielder and Oppenheim were given unprecedented access to Holmes and her husband, Billy Evans, in the weeks leading up to her prison sentence. Fielder even lived in the home with Holmes, Evans, and their children in the days before Holmes reported to prison.
