Throughout the years, countless actors have portrayed iconic comic characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve seen renowned celebrities like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, and Josh Brolin. Another famous face to appear in the popular movie and television franchise is Elizabeth Olsen. And she played Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch.

Olsen appeared in several MCU projects before her character’s involvement came to an end. However, during a recent interview, she addressed the possibility of her and Wanda returning. What did she have to say, and was it good news or bad news?

The Future of The Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen’s final on-screen MCU appearance was in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” During which, she, as the Scarlet Witch, sacrifices herself to atone for her misdeeds. Fans, though, remain unconvinced that Olsen and her character are gone for good. These speculations mostly stem from the fact that Wanda’s body was never recovered or shown. Additionally, the series “Agatha All Along” constantly teased that the character still lives.

The Marvel Studios head honchos have offered no confirmation regarding Olsen or Wanda’s potential return. But during a recent interview, Olsen herself weighed in on the subject. She admitted that she’d “jump at the opportunity” to reprise her iconic Marvel role. The MCU star also confessed to adoring the franchise’s community and the job consistency. In the end, Olsen admitted to having no idea if she and Wanda would return.

Elizabeth Olsen and Her Marvel Role

The younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley, Elizabeth Olsen, was born in 1989. She pursued acting early in life, making her debut at age 11. But chose not to seek out a child-star career and focused on school instead. Olsen gained her big break in the 2011 thriller drama “Martha Marcy May Marlene.” Afterward, she appeared in various films like “Silent House,” “Godzilla,” and “Very Good Girls.”

Olsen made her MCU debut in the mid-credits scene from “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Her next appearance would be in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” as the Scarlet Witch. After that, she returned for “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame.” Olsen would reprise her role for the Disney+ series, “WandaVision,” alongside MCU alumnus Paul Bettany. And her character’s arc came to a supposed end in “Multiverse of Madness.”

Final Thoughts

I’d be all for Elizabeth Olsen returning to the MCU as the Scarlet Witch. Her character was one of my favorites since her first appearance in “Age of Ultron.” Wanda brought a unique element to any Marvel film in which she prominently appeared. Plus, it was nice to see another regular female Avenger besides Black Widow.

Personally, I think it’s highly possible Olsen could return as Wanda in “Avengers: Secret Wars.” The movie is supposedly tackling multiversal travel and alternate realities. Meaning the chance of us witnessing a different Scarlet Witch is immensely high. I’m hoping Elizabeth Olsen returns to play the role despite the unique situation. But we won’t know until either an update comes or “Secret Wars” debuts in 2027.
