Eric Dane and Jensen Ackles star as Nathan Blythe and Mark Meachum in Prime Video's Countdown. The first three episodes of the highly anticipated action series will premiere on Wednesday, June 25, followed by new episodes weekly through September 3.
When an officer with the Department of Homeland Security is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD detective Mark Meachum, portrayed by Ackles, is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement, to investigate. But the hunt for the killer soon uncovers a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions.
The duo spoke to Yardbarker about which new strength these roles helped them unlock personally, the many different dynamics on the task force, and smaller character details:
On the task force, every character has their own unique strength. So what strength did the role of Mark unlock in the actor? "I would say his vulnerability. I think he was pretty walled up, like there was a lot of layers to cut through with this character to get to any kind of sense of emotional vulnerability. That was sometimes tough to play that, but it's almost like, when you have an emotional scene, and it's like the best way to cry is to try not to cry," Ackles explained. "And so, I was kind of doing that with him, was trying not to be emotional, trying not to let my emotions seep out, but I felt like there was kind of a beauty in allowing that facade to crack."
The series has an impressive ensemble, which gives fans plenty of different dynamics and relationships to become invested in. "We had a very solid chemistry, this cast off screen and on screen, which is rare," Dane shared. "People will show up for the writing, but they stay for the chemistry between the characters, and if you want to have somebody come back and want to watch the show, you have to create characters they can identify with and invest in."
