Ernie Hudson joins Donnie Wahlberg in CBS's 'Boston Blue'

Ernie Hudson has officially joined the cast of Boston Blue alongside Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green as a series regular. The new series received a straight-to-series order back in February after the cancellation of Blue Bloods, which was on the air for 14 seasons.

In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg.

Boston Blue will air Fridays at 10:00 PM after Sheriff Country and Fire Country as part of the network's 2025-2026 broadcast season.

"Our 2025-2026 primetime schedule boasts a star-studded lineup of returning hit shows and new exciting series from top creators and producers," said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. "Coming off another winning season enabled us to make bold scheduling moves and fortify our strong lineup with thematically compatible programs every night of the week for strong viewer flow and to serve as a powerful launch pad for the new shows. Additionally, we’re appreciative of our loyal audiences who regularly watch on CBS and Paramount+ and to our creative partners who continue to deliver outstanding content."

Martin-Green will portray Lena Silvers, Danny's new Boston PD partner and the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. Hudson will play Reverend Peters, who is the family patriarch.

According to Variety, the character is described as "a renowned pastor of an historic Baptist church in Boston. An open-minded, welcoming man that is comfortable in all traditions, he is happy to preside at his church’s traditional Sunday Baptist service. Reverend Peters is the father of Mae Silver, Boston’s district attorney, and grandfather of detective Lena Silver, superintendent Ashley Silver, and rookie patrol cop, Isaac Silver."

"We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long," Martin-Green expressed. "And I feel that we’ll love the Peters too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time."

"One thing about Blue Bloods and how beloved it was is because there are so many law enforcement families in this country. There’s not just the Reagans," Wahlberg added. "They’re in every state, every city, every town, everywhere, and there are other families around that have stories to tell too. Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family. You can’t have Danny without Reagans — there’ll be connective tissue. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and carry on the tradition of telling their stories."
