John Wick: Chapter 4 gave us an ending that could serve as a swan song for the Baba Yaga yet also left room for more action. John is finally free from the High Table yet he’s presumed dead, as evidenced by a headstone. Still, there’s a big indication that he’s still alive. A post-credits scene shows more drama for his adversary Caine, which sets up that character’s upcoming spinoff sequel. And, after a John Wick 5 announcement, it was all but certain that Keanu Reeves would suit up once again as our favorite skilled assassin.
What is next for John Wick now that he’s completely free? Or are there more secrets and drama in his life that will arise in this next chapter. Here’s everything we know about John Wick 5 so far.
For now, the film is going by John Wick 5. It could become John Wick: Chapter 5 or some other title in the future, but the former isn’t likely considering this film is going in a fresh direction.
In a conversation with Empire, director Chad Stahelski said this sequel’s plot will be different because it won’t involve the High Table. This makes sense considering that the storyline reached a conclusion in the fourth film.
“The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up,” Stahelski said. “So the only way to do a [fifth film] is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy f---… I gotta see that.’”
What does that mean, exactly? We will have to see. All of this is funny considering Keanu Reeves said John was dead back in March 2025.
Stahelski also said that the Under the High Table TV show and an animated prequel film about Wick leaving his assassin life behind will set up John Wick 5. I mean… if John is not killing people anymore, then what is he doing? Maybe he’s training others for something big. Maybe he owns a dog sanctuary and has a full on romance story with his neighbor. Either way, we are watching.
Chad Stahelski will direct this and presumably have a hand in its script.
For now, the only cast member we know for sure is Keanu Reeves as John Wick. Pending the events of the Caine spinoff, we could see that character and others. Winston is still tied in with the High Table, so we may or may not see Ian McShane in this film. And surely Wick’s pal the Bowery King will return. We all need more Laurence Fishburne in our lives.
There is currently no release date for John Wick 5.
