Sure, "Rebel Without a Cage" was a little iffy, but maybe "Uncaged Fury" will see action legend Johnny Cage recapture the glory of films like "Hard to Cage." With our first teaser for the film, we can finally start to wrap our heads around how the movie is going to turn out.
Okay, all that was likely either entertaining or impenetrable. This is an in-universe bit of nonsense to help promote the upcoming "Mortal Kombat II." In 2021, another run at adapting the popular (and famously violent) fighting game series "Mortal Kombat,"emerged and the film found fans by doing what previous attempts hadn't: Being as nasty and gory as the games.
The promotion for "Mortal Kombat II," which comes out just before Halloween, is kicking into high gear and the focus is on Johnny Cage. Specifically, Karl Urban as Johnny Cage.
Within the world of "Mortal Kombat," Johnny Cage is essentially an All-American Jean-Claude Van Damme. He makes martial-arts action flicks like, well, "Uncaged Fury." The character wasn't in the first movie, but Cage has been added to the sequel, and the marketing is going all-in on getting people hyped for the movie based on Urban playing Cage.
Because "Mortal Kombat" came out in April 2021, moviegoing was still being hampered by COVID-19, and it was one of the films to get dropped on streaming the same day it hit theaters. Warner Bros. will be hoping the sequel can make a splash in theaters. A "Cool Hand Cage" level splash.
