First trailer of 'Young Sherlock' brings action and mystery
Key art for Prime Video's Young Sherlock series. Prime Video

A few years back, director Guy Ritchie found success with his two Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic British detective. Both movies reinvented the century-old sleuth for the modern action movie era. Now, Ritchie is finally returning to the character. This time, with a new series set in Holmes’ younger days, titled, fittingly enough, Young Sherlock. The series stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the titular role, and shows how he learned to be the world’s greatest detective (who isn’t Batman, of course). You can check out the first trailer for Young Sherlock, which debuts on Prime Video next spring, right here:

And here’s the official synopsis for Young Sherlock from Prime Video:

With all the wit and charm of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes feature films, Young Sherlock follows the origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character’s early days. Sherlock Holmes is a disgraced young man – raw and unfiltered – when he finds himself wrapped up in a murder case that threatens his liberty. His first ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy that changes his life forever. Unfolding in 1870s Oxford and adventuring abroad, the series will expose the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident.

Ritchie himself will direct the first two episodes of the 8-episode season. The series will also star iconic actors Joseph Fiennes and Colin Firth. Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Natascha McElhone, and Max Irons round out the cast. This isn’t the first “Young Sherlock Holmes” project ever made, of course. In 1985, there was a Young Sherlock Holmes movie, which didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Maybe this series will fare better with fans? The eight episodes of Young Sherlock will all drop on Prime Video on March 4, 2026.
