‘Good Morning America’ Reveals New Weekend Anchors

ABC News is expanding its Good Morning America Weekend team with two new cohosts, including senior political correspondent Rachel Scott and correspondent Rhiannon Ally.

As the network announced Wednesday (September 9), Scott will join veteran GMA weekend coanchor Whit Johnson on Saturdays, beginning September 12. Johnson has served as cohost of GMA on weekends since 2018; he will also continue to anchor World News Tonight on Saturdays.

Ally, meanwhile, will join ABC News transportation correspondent Gio Benitez on the Sunday edition of GMA. Benitez has served as coanchor since 2023.

In addition, Johnson, Scott, Benitez and Ally will anchor ABC News Live Weekend on a rotating basis on weekend mornings beginning at 10 am ET on ABC News’ 24/7 streaming news channel on Disney+, Hulu, and the ABC News app.

GMA weekend will also be getting a new meteorologist, as Leslie Lopez joins the ABC News family after a decade at the ABC-owned television station, KABC-TV.

“We know weekend mornings are precious to our audience, and we could not be more excited to have Whit, Rachel, Gio and Rhiannon as our new weekend team, along with Leslie, to help our viewers make the most of their Saturdays and Sundays, plus our new format will allow this team to show up more on our weekday broadcasts, too,” GMA senior executive producer Simone Swink said in a statement.

Scott began her ABC News career as a production associate in 2016 and has worked her way up the ranks. In her time at the network, she has interviewed world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, and reported on the aftermath of the 2024 assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. She also worked as a full-time producer for GMA Digital.

In addition to coanchoring GMA Saturday from New York, Scott will continue as senior political correspondent covering the White House, Capitol Hill, and more from Washington, D.C..

Ally joined the network in 2021 and has reported and anchored across various ABC News programs and platforms. Most recently, she served as coanchor of World News Now and Good Morning America First Look.
