Guy Ritchie is directing a Sherlock Holmes origin story, and he’s already cast the lead role.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin is set to star as a 19-year-old Sherlock in Young Sherlock, an upcoming series on Prime Video.

Ritchie already directed Tiffin in 2024 action movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare alongside Henry Cavill, and he must have liked what he saw.

Young Sherlock is the third Sherlock project overall for Ritchie. The director helmed 2009’s Sherlock Holmes and its 2011 sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Both films starred Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock and Jude Law as Watson.

“In Young Sherlock we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” said Ritchie in a statement. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”

According to the film’s official synopsis, the series is an explosive re-imagining. “At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever."
