'Happy Gilmore' is being re-released in theaters ahead of the Netflix sequel

Before Happy Gilmore returns on July 25, the 1996 film is being re-released in theaters! The screenings, presented by Fandango, will take place nationwide in the US on April 27 and April 30.

All Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) has ever wanted is to be a professional hockey player. But he soon discovers he may actually have a talent for playing an entirely different sport: golf. When his grandmother (Frances Bay) learns she is about to lose her home, Happy joins a golf tournament to try and win enough money to buy it for her. With his powerful driving skills and foulmouthed attitude, Happy becomes an unlikely golf hero -- much to the chagrin of the well-mannered golf professionals.

As for the highly anticipated sequel, the cast will include Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, John Daly, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutkosky, Philip Fine Schneider, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Travis Kelce, Blake Clark, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and Paige Spiranic.

"People have been asking me for a long time, 'Do Happy Gilmore 2,' and I was always like, 'Nah, I'll only let you down,'" Sandler, who additionally co-wrote and produced the movie, explained. "But then me and my buddy, Tim Herlihy, we came up with this idea. We're really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. We're continuing to try to make it a movie that you guys will like."

The actor has also confirmed an Eminem cameo while on The Dan Patrick Show. "I’ve known Eminem for a long time and he’s a great guy," he shared. "He came in and was funny as hell. I think we hung out a day with Eminem and we just shot and shot and it was insane. Said a million things we can use and a million things we’re glad we have on tape."

The project was shot in New Jersey with Kyle Newacheck directing.
