Hayden Christensen confirms he will be back for season two of "Ahsoka"

Who would have thought that, one day, people would be enthusiastic upon hearing Hayden Christensen would be playing Anakin Skywalker again? Well, perhaps somebody who figured that the long-standing predilection many have toward nostalgia would only grow (metastasize?) as time went on. Though, to be fair people at an event literally called "Star Wars Celebration" are probably inclined to be hyped for all things a galaxy far, far away. All that is to say that, officially, Christensen will be returning as Anakin in the second season of "Ahsoka."

"Ahsoka" stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, a character who rose to prominence in animated "Star Wars" series and quickly became a favorite of a certain generation of fans. In the world of "Star Wars" she was an apprentice under Anakin who, as you assuredly know, becomes Darth Vader.

The first season of "Ahsoka" was solid enough, and served well as the yin to the yang of "Andor." The latter is for people who want to watch talented actors sitting in rooms having serious conversations. The former is for those who want to watch cartoonish character fight with sci-fi weapons.

Popping up into the mix was Christensen, once again returning to play Anakin. At Star Wars Celebration, Christensen made a surprise appearance, and then closed out the "Ahsoka" event by saying he will, in fact, be back for season two, which starts filming soon.

Christensen stepped into the world of "Star Wars" as Anakin back in the prequels. At the time he got a lot of criticism, as did the movies. To be fair, it was only because those three movies are uniformly lacking in quality and Christensen was not good in his two films.

Now, in the full throes of adulthood, Christensen has improved his acting chops to what we would call "serviceable," and he was totally okay in the first season of "Ahsoka." It's just remarkable that Christensen is now being viewed with enthusiasm by many "Star Wars" fans. That's the power of nostalgia. Maybe if you embrace the Anakin of your youth you'll never have to die.
