Here's why Robert Pattinson can't watch horror movies anymore

While promoting Mickey 17 with director Bong Joon Ho, Robert Pattinson opened up about the reason he "can’t watch horror movies anymore." In an interview with GQ, he explained that while he used to "watch a lot of really dark stuff when I was younger and just think like, 'Yeah, this is cool,'" now, he's too sensitive.

He shared that in his opinion, one of the best performances that he's seen is Michael Rooker in 1986's Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. However, when he watched it recently, it really frightened him this time.

"You would think it would go the other way round. Like, as you get older, you become less frightened of this, but I can’t watch horror movies anymore."

Bong suggested maybe the reason for the shift is because he became a dad, but Pattinson says that it "happened before that." The actor and Suki Waterhouse welcomed their daughter in March 2024.

Adapted from the novel Mickey 17 by Edward Ashton, this stars Robert Pattinson as an “expendable” - a disposable crew member on a space mission, selected for dangerous tasks because he can be renewed if his body dies, with his memories largely intact. With one regenration, though, things go very wrong.

The director told Collider what it was like to work with Pattinson on the film, expressing, "I relied heavily on the actors in regards to the language of the film. With Mickey 17, it was Rob. I relied heavily on Rob. He has such a unique and amazing linguistic sensibility. Especially with Mickey 18, he improvised a lot of really fun dialogue, a lot of which was not really scripted. It was another great lesson in realizing that you need to work with amazing actors to overcome, I guess, what you can call a 'linguistic handicap' I have, where it's not my native language."

Mickey 17 is now playing in theaters.
