'He’s Been Around for Years': ‘Invincible’ Creatives Reveal Dream Picks for a Spinoff Series

The first four episodes of Invincible Season 3 are now streaming on Prime Video, and fans are elated that the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 does not mirror that between Seasons 1 and 2. Invincible has been around in TV form for the better part of four years now, and while the show branched out a bit with things like the Atom Eve Special, it’s mostly remained focused on Mark (Steven Yeun). However, this may not be the case for much longer.

The Invincible universe is ripe with potential for spinoffs, and now that the show has expanded into exploring interplanetary conflicts, one could argue that it’s becoming a bit too crowded to all fit into one singular series. There are plenty of characters like Nolan/Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) who have a rich history beyond anything we’ve seen on screen, but Invincible‘s showrunner may have just teased who’s next in line to lead their own series.

‘Invincible’s Simon Racioppa Wants To See an Immortal Spinoff

‘s own TJ Zwarych recently caught up with Invincible creator Robert Kirkman and showrunner Simon Racioppa ahead of Season 3, and he asked which character they would most like to see get the spinoff treatment. Kirkman responded with Rex Splode (Jason Mantzoukas) to “make things harder for Simon,” but Racioppa was quick to reveal his pick as Ross Marquand‘s Immortal.

“Oh God, I would love to see Immortal. You could do such a great story with it, he’s been around for thousands of years. You could go back in time… He was young once! Wouldn’t it be great to see that? So yeah, Immortal, maybe he was a fun time.”

There are plenty of Invincible characters who would certainly have no trouble leading an entertaining spinoff, but a deep dive into the history of Immortal showing how he got to be a member of the Guardians of the Globe is about as compelling as it gets. Marquand’s performance as Immortal has steadily improved throughout both seasons, especially with the inclusion of his love story with Dupli-Kate (Melise) in Season 2, and with a content well “thousands of years” deep to pull from, the potential for intriguing stories is endless.

‘Invincible’ Season 3 Is a Worthy Follow-Up to Season 2

Invincible Season 3 debuted last week to a perfect 100% score from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. This comes from a small sample size of 19 reviews at the time of writing, so it is subject to change, but it’s still something to get excited about. ‘s TJ Zwarych praised the series in his review, calling it “special” and “one of the best shows on television” while grading a final score of 3.5/5.

The first three episodes of Invincible Season 3 are now streaming.
