From the dazzling mind of Japanese game maker Hideo Kojima comes a new anime series inspired by his post-apocalyptic game franchise Death Stranding. Disney+ reveals that the series, tentatively named Death Stranding Isolations, hits the platform in 2027.

The legendary gamemaker took to the stage at the Disney+ originals Asia Pacific preview on Thursday to share the exciting news. Joining him was Takayuki Sano (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods), who is slated to direct the new series. E&H Production will produce. This partnership marks the first between Kojima Productions and the global streaming platform.

Death Stranding Isolations follows a young man as he tries to save America. With humanity on the brink of extinction, Sam Bridges journeys the continent as others deal with isolation in their own way. Set within the Death Stranding universe, the animated series will tell a fresh narrative separate from that of the games. An old man searches for his own salvation. A female warrior tries to kickstart a world of constant fighting. A boy holds a grudge against Bridges, and a girl embraces her loneliness.

With Kojima as executive producer, the series will be created through hand-drawn 2D animation. The announcement also featured original concept art by artist Ilya Kuvshinov.
