Hilarie Burton Morgan says there are 'lots of good things cooking right now' with the 'One Tree Hill' reboot

Last year, it was announced that a sequel series of One Tree Hill was in the works at Netflix with original stars Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton Morgan, and Daneel Ackles executive producing. Bush and Morgan are confirmed to reprise their roles, and Mark Schwahn will not have any involvement in the reboot. Becky Hartman Edwards will serve as showrunner.

According to Deadline, the reboot "is said to take place 20 years later following best friends Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities and grief, we understand."

While at the AMC Networks 2025 Upfront & Content Showcase, Morgan gave an update to PEOPLE: "We're at the phase right now where I can't say anything. Before, I could be like, 'Oh, there's a little bit of movement.'"

She then commented, "There's lots of good things cooking right now, and it's really smart, caring people working on it. And that's always a fun thing to be a part of."

So who else could return? Well, Bryan Greenberg, Robert Buckley, Tyler Hilton, and Daphne Zuniga all commented on Morgan's Instagram post. Hilton also told PEOPLE, "I'll do any One Tree Hill thing anytime. It's got such a place in my heart. They'd always talked about reboots in the past, and I was always a ‘yes’ no matter what. It's become this zeitgeist thing for me and for the fans that I just feel like I should be a part of it if I'd be lucky enough to be asked. I think it would be really fun to do. I would love to get to play Chris Keller for the rest of my life. It's such a guilty pleasure."

He even has a pitch for his character: "I either feel like he's running some studio and trying to foster new talent."

Jana Kramer, who portrayed Alex Dupré, revealed to E! News that she has talked to Bush about coming back: "They're gonna get their footing of the show but I think they're open to bringing back characters."

She continued to add, "For me, I love watching rebooted shows and then seeing old characters come back. I wanna know where they're at, what they've been up to. So, I hope I get the opportunity, it sounds like there's a window for that. I'm ready if it comes calling."

Bethany Joy Lenz, who starred as Haley James Scott, said to Variety, "I am absolutely open to being a part of a revisiting to Tree Hill. But as far as this particular one, I don’t know. It’s so early. I don’t know if it’s in pilot, I don’t know if it’s in series. I don’t know where it’s at."

Meanwhile, James Lafferty, who portrayed her on-screen husband and fan favorite character Nathan Scott, explained, "Personally, I’m blown away by the fans that make a conversation like this even possible. Professionally, I’m completely focused on finding Everyone is Doing Great Season 2 the right home. Until then, consider me grateful for this moment and cheering everyone on!"

And during a fan Q&A at a Friends With Benefit Charity Event in Wilmington, North Carolina, Antwon Tanner, who played Skills, expressed, "All I got to say about a reboot is if they do reboot it, tell Netflix to hire me."

As for who will not return, fans should not expect to see Paul Johansson or Chad Michael Murray.
