Seriously, who doesn’t love a good laugh? Especially when it’s by funny women who aren’t afraid to engage in crazy comedy. Whether it’s physical, self-deprecating, slapstick, snarky, or just straight up funny shenanigans, we love our comedic women. What makes a good comedienne? Turns out, it’s a couple things. Besides being funny (yah – obviously), self-confidence, as well as perfect timing are the two necessities.

Top 5 Funny Women in Comedic Movies

You probably think that just making jokes or comedic actresses put in funny situations are what humorous movies are about, but comedy is so much more. Timing, as mentioned previously, is incredibly important, but also the story has to count. Let’s check out these top 5 funny women who have made us laugh.

Melissa McCarthy – “Superintelligence”

Melissa McCarthy is known for her role in “Bridesmaids” as Megan, and also as Molly on “Mike & Molly,” but one of her funniest roles is in “Superintelligence.” Here she plays Carol, a tech worker who somehow manages to get involved with AI. The AI chooses Carol to observe – just to see if humanity can be saved.

Needless to say, this hysterical movie gets even funnier with McCarthy’s and the AI’s discourse. The two go at it – the snarky AI judges her, Carol fights back – eventually finding out exactly what’s behind this. A special treat: the AI is voiced by James Corden, who’s an ideal fit for the role.

Kristen Wiig – “Bridesmaids”

Speaking of “Bridesmaids,” we have Kristen Wiig. Talented for acting on screen, writing, and as an adept voice artist, Wiig is primarily known for her comedic roles. Her excellent portrayal of Annie in “Bridesmaids” earned Wiig multiple award nominations.

Wiig continues to perform voice work, she writes, and she has several upcoming projects. You can currently see her as Maxine in “Palm Royale.” This funny actress additionally gave a memorable performance as Barbara in “Wonder Woman 1984.”

Sandra Bullock – “Miss Congeniality”

Sandra Bullock has been in a ton of movies – some comedic, some dramatic, but mostly all are beloved by her fans. Between her roles as Sarah in “Forces of Nature” or as Leigh Anne in “The Blind Side,” she shows exceptional versatility. But where she shines is her portrayal of Gracie in “Miss Congeniality.”

In fact, “Miss Congeniality” was such a big hit, there was a part two, “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous.” It’s highly amusing to watch Bullock play this enticing character, as one of her (somewhat) unexpected strengths is physical comedy. Who would’ve thought?

Regina Hall – “Girls Trip”

This talented actress has made her way through the “Scream” franchise and she’s worked on films like “The Hate U Give” and “Shaft.” However, Regina Hall is outstanding in one of her funniest roles as Ryan in “Girls Trip.” It’s about four friends tackling New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival. Fun!

Here Hall is perfectly cast as Ryan, who is supposed to be the “next Oprah Winfrey.” This comedy film is a mix of adventure and antics, which plays strongly to Hall’s comedic skill. Queen Latifah (as Sasha) should also get an honorable mention.

Goldie Hawn – “The First Wives Club”

Funny woman Goldie Hawn has been around for years. Getting her start on “Laugh-In,” Hawn played various roles in comedy films. She found her footing as Judy Benjamin in “Private Benjamin” in 1980, which launched her to stardom.

In this movie, Hawn, Bette Midler, and the late, great Diane Keaton play three friends whose husbands have left them for younger women. The three (hilariously) plot their revenge: to hit their ex-husbands where it counts the most: in the pocketbook.
