Hulu reveals 'How I Met Your Father' premiere date

The long-awaited How I Met Your Mother spinoff series How I Met Your Father is officially premiering Jan. 18, 2022, exclusively on Hulu.

The news was announced by the streamer Wednesday:

The first look of the cast, led by Hilary Duff, was shared last week:

How I Met Your Mother originally ran on CBS for nine seasons from 2005-14 and followed Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) as he recounts to his children the story of how he met their mother, narrated by Bob Saget. Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel and Cobie Smulders rounded out the ensemble cast.

The spinoff series stars Duff as Sophie and Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) taking over narration duties from Saget, as Deadline exclusively reported earlier this month:

"Cattrall will play the future version of Hilary Duff’s character Sophie, who is telling her son the story of how she met his father, much like Josh Radnor (and Bob Saget’s) Ted Mosby did in the original series. Sophie’s story will transport audiences back to the year 2021 where she and her close-knit group of friends— Jesse (Chris Lowell), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Ellen (Tien Tran), and Sid (Suraj Sharma)— are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options."

It was announced in April that How I Met Your Father had received a straight-to-series order from Hulu.
