Inclement weather puts an end to Bonnaroo 2025

Bummer news for the folks who went down to Tennessee for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. It's one of the biggest music festivals in the United States, and now that it isn't as overcranked as Coachella, it's in the running for being the best of the bunch, at least from the headline festivals. Some big names were scheduled to perform, but before most artists got a chance to take the stage, Bonnaroo had to cancel the remainder of the festival on Friday due to the weather.

Thursday went okay, with Thursday's headliner Luke Combs able to take the stage. Come Friday, though, weather delays begat evacuation notices which begat cancelling the rest of the festival. The heavy summer rains weren't going anywhere, and that is particularly of concern at Bonnaroo. It takes place on a farm in rural Tennessee, and it is very camping-oriented in terms of festivalgoers. Steady heavy rain was going to render the grounds a mess, so much so festivalgoers could have found themselves stranded.

The likes of Vampire Weekend and Avril Lavigne were slated to perform, and the remaining headliners after Combs were Tyler, the Creator, Olivia Rodrigo, and Hozier. Anybody who bought single-day tickets for Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday are going to get a full refund, and those who bought four-day tickets are getting a 75-percent refund.

It's an unfortunate turn of events, but also an inherent risk to outdoor music festivals. In fact, this is the second time weather has axed Bonnaroo, as it was canceled in 2021 owing to flooding in the wake of Hurricane Ida. Hopefully the weather is not imperiling to festivalgoers who now need to make their way home laden with the disappointment of missing out on three days of Bonnaroo, and hopefully 2026 will go off without a hitch.
