The animated flick became a global phenomenon practically overnight and gains more fans every day. It’s one of the biggest and most popular modern trends on the Internet nowadays. In fact, it’s so beloved that its creators are developing a sequel. And there are even rumors that an entire franchise is in the works.

Music Slays All Demons

“K-Pop Demon Hunters” follows a music trio consisting of best friends Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. They’re also known as HUNTR/X, a Korean pop band with fans across the world. In addition, these musical artists regularly fight and slay soul-sucking demons. And they’re fighting to strengthen the globe-wide magical demon-sealing barrier called the Honmoon. Because without it, the demons’ king Gwi-Ma would be free to feast upon humanity.

The Honmoon’s strengthening is coming, and Gwi-Ma and his forces are growing despondent. To stop it, the demon king sends some demons to masquerade as a boy band. Their job is to steal HUNTR/X’s fans and weaken the barrier keeping from imprisoned. Unfortunately, complications arise when the lead demon, Jinu, discovers a shocking secret about Rumi.

In the end, viewers couldn’t help but adore “K-Pop Demon Hunters” for one reason or another. It achieved fathomless fame almost immediately, becoming the most popular film in Netflix history. Today, it’s a global sensation that attracts countless fans practically every day. And it seems its unexpected popularity has led to something big in the works.

Plans to Expand “K-Pop Demon Hunters“

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are currently working on a “K-Pop Demon Hunters” sequel. Other than that, there’s no real information about what this eventual movie is about. There’s speculation it could focus on Mira and/or Zoey since the first followed Rumi. Though Arden Cho, who portrayed Rumi, expressed interest in seeing her character and Jinu reunite. We’ll just have to wait for an official update to find out for sure.

Additionally, there are plans to expand “K-Pop Demon Hunters” into a full-blown franchise. Word has it a live stage musical and a television series is in the works. There was even an idea for a live-action remake, but it ended up getting axed. Nevertheless, the world is in for more adventures with its favorite demon-slaying Korean pop trio. Let’s just hope the devoted fans won’t have to wait long to see them.

Final Thoughts

Like many others, I consider “K-Pop Demon Hunters” a modern musical masterpiece. I’m constantly re-watching YouTube clips of my favorite moments from the movie. And my preferred songs from the soundtrack play in my brain and online playlist constantly. Given that, a sequel sounds appealing to me, and what it could entail excites me. I may have some slight reservations about it, though I’m more optimistic than skeptical.

Personally, I’m hoping this upcoming sequel answers the burning questions regarding Rumi’s parents. Though I am absolutely open to it delving more into Mira or Zoey’s past. Their backstories were hinted at during the previous movie, but still. Either way, I’m ready for a “K-Pop Demon Hunters” sequel and franchise. And, until then, everyone else and I can re-watch the original movie over on Netflix.
