Jeremy Renner, Original Avenger Says He’s Not Appearing in 'Avengers' 5 or 6

Jeremy Renner shared an update on his character Hawkeye on The Breakfast Club. Unfortunately, it looks like we won’t see Hawkeye on the big screen anytime soon. It’s a pretty crushing update considering that Renner was recently in London connecting with the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” while promoting “Mayor of Kingstown.”

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM, where he was promoting the latest season of “Mayor of Kingstown” and his memoir detailing his recovery from a devastating 2023 snowplow accident, the actor didn’t mince words when asked about his future in the MCU. When directly questioned about whether he would appear in either “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars.” On “The Breakfast Club,”  the actor’s response was refreshingly straightforward: “No.”

This confirmation comes as a surprise to many fans who were hoping to see the sharpshooting Avenger return for what’s expected to be the epic conclusion of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. The original six Avengers had their emotional farewell in “Avengers: Endgame,” but  Hawkeye continued his story in the Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” leaving the door open for future appearances.

Renner also addressed the elephant in the room during his interview—the departure of Jonathan Majors from the MCU. The actor revealed insights into Marvel’s original vision, stating that Marvel Studios had “big plans” for Majors’ Kang the Conqueror before the actor was removed from the franchise. According to The Playlist, Renner called the entire situation “unfortunate” and noted that “due diligence really has to be played out.”

This reference stems from Majors’ conviction in December 2023 for misdemeanor assault and harassment following a domestic incident. In response to the conviction, Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company swiftly announced that Majors would be removed from all upcoming projects.

The ripple effects of this decision were massive. Plans had to change after Major’s firing. “Avengers: Doomsday” was initially titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” with Majors set to anchor the MCU’s next phase as the time-traveling villain. Those plans were completely rewritten, with Kang’s role either diminished or eliminated entirely from future projects.

“Hawkeye” Season 2: Still a Possibility Despite Challenges

While Jeremy Renner is possibly stepping away from the big-screen Avengers action, he hasn’t completely closed the door on his MCU future. The actor remains open to returning for a second season of “Hawkeye,” though he’s been candid about the challenges he faces. Addressing rumors about reduced salary offers, Renner clarified the real situation.

He explained on The Playlist: “Not because of a snowplow [incident]. No, it’s just, guys, if they want to do season two and they just offered half the amount to do season two, I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course, I’d love to do it. But it’s going to take a lot of physical work to get back into it. And also just the timing, because it would take a little bit more time for me to physically do the role.”

The physical demands of the role are understandably a significant consideration for Renner, who is still recovering from his life-threatening accident. His honesty about his ongoing recovery process is both heartbreaking and inspiring.  Renner’s approach to his potential return demonstrates remarkable resilience and self-awareness.

He acknowledged that his recovery remains an ongoing process, explaining, “Maybe I just wasn’t ready last year. Maybe it’ll happen in a year or two, because I’m still in recovery right now. It will be for the rest of my life, but I’m just getting stronger every day.” This vulnerability shows a different side of the actor who has portrayed one of Marvel’s most grounded and human heroes.

His commitment to his health and honest assessment of his capabilities speak to the same determination that made “Hawkeye” such a compelling character.
