F1: The Movie was a critical and commercial success, which wasn’t shocking at all. When you combine the powers of Brad Pitt, Jerry Bruckheimer, and America’s love of fast cars, you simply cannot lose. This story about a gifted racer who gets another shot decades after his prime is a great one. It is so great, in fact, that there could be a sequel in the works. In an interview with Variety, Bruckheimer praised the cast and said that he hoped to make an F1: The Movie sequel in the future.
Of course, a hope or wish does not always become reality. But, considering the film’s happy ending, there is room for a sequel. We did see that Sonny intends to keep on racing, as does rookie Joshua. Will they meet on the track again in the near future? Is there a new enemy brewing that Sonny will have to face? We would only find out if there’s an F1: The Movie sequel.
Personally, I thought this story ended beautifully and doesn’t need more. But studios and creatives like cashing in on a good thing, even when it is not absolutely necessary.
