John Travolta surprises audiences at  'Grease Sing-A-Long' event dressed as Danny Zuko

John Travolta gave Grease fans the ultimate surprise last night at the Hollywood Bowl, who were there for the Sing-A-Long event. The description read, "Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a T-bird or a Pink Lady but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off? Well, now is your chance to don those pink jackets, grease up those quiffs, and let your inhibitions go for an evening where you are the stars and Grease is truly the word!  Watch Danny, Sandy, and the gang while singing and dancing along to the lyrics as shown on the screen."

Those on stage included director Randal Kleiser, Barry Pearl, Didi Conn, Kelly Ward, and Michael Tucci, who were shocked when Travolta joined them. They all sang "a-womp-bop-a-looma a-womp-bam-boom" together with the audience before he told the crowd, "Enjoy the show. We love you!"

"Tonight at the Hollywood Bowl, for the first time I surprised everyone at the GREASE Sing-A-Long and dressed up as Danny Zuko. No one knew. Not even the cast," he wrote on Instagram, even including a video. "Thank you for a great evening."

Grease came out in 1978, with Travolta starring as Danny Zuko alongside Olivia Newton-John as Sandy Olsson. Newton-John passed away at 73 in August 2022.

"The depth of the impact is bizarre," Stockard Channing, who played Rizzo, told The Times. "I gave [Grease] my all, and I’m proud of the performance and proud of the character. But at the time, it was not taken at all seriously. The money that it was making was resented. I was resented. It’s a kid’s movie — it was really p----- on."

She continued to explain, "But then I realised with time, how it’s affected generations, especially of women and even some men."

The rest of the cast included Dinah Manoff, Jamie Donnelly, Jeff Conaway, Susan Buckner, and Eve Arden.
