John Williams will score Steven Spielberg's mysterious new Sci-Fi film

The term GOAT gets thrown around way too easily these days, but not when it comes to John Williams . It’s impossible to imagine the movie industry without its greatest, most influential, most celebrated composer. It’s also impossible to imagine Steven Spielberg’s films without him. Fortunately we won’t have to do that next year. Williams has reportedly come out of retirement and is in Los Angeles working on the score for Spielberg’s big, mysterious upcoming 2026 sci-fi movie.

Journalist Doug Adams was in attendance for an event celebrating the iconic composer’s life and career at Juilliard School where Julliard president Damian Woetzel dropped an exciting bit of news. (Which we first heard about at IGN). According to Adams, Woetzel said the 93-year-old Williams “is in Los Angeles doing what he does: he is working with Steven Spielberg on the next movie.” He also added, “And that is something to be happy about.”

Indeed it is. For lots of reasons. It’s always great when these two legends work together. But it seemed possible that might never happen again. Williams previously said Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would be his last movie score. Williams later provided one caveat. He said, “If a film came along that I was greatly interested in, with a schedule that I could cope with, then I wouldn’t want to rule anything out. Everything is possible.”

This is a great sign for Spielberg’s unknown “event” film from Universal, which we first reported on last year. It’s clearly interesting enough to become 30th collaboration between the director and Williams. It will also see Spielberg reunite with longtime screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park, The Lost World, War of the Worlds), so he’s really getting the band back together for this film.

And if you’re getting the band back together you obviously want Hollywood’s musical GOAT writing your music.
