Joseph Zada reveals that he's been finding out 'Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' casting news "through Instagram"

As the insanely talented cast list for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping continues to be revealed, more and more of the actors involved are expressing their excitement to be part of the franchise, including Joseph Zada and Ralph Fiennes.

"I've been finding this stuff out through Instagram, and I’m the lead character," Zada, who will be leading the ensemble as Haymitch Abernathy, told Vanity Fair

THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

Haymitch was first portrayed by Woody Harrelson in The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and both parts of Mockingjay. "I did get a nice little message. From Woody’s niece, I think. He doesn’t have a phone. I’m sure I’ll speak to him eventually, but apparently he’s very happy for me," he continued to share

Meanwhile, Fiennes is taking on the role of President Snow, originally portrayed by the late Donald Sutherland. "I'm really thrilled,” he said to The Hollywood Reporter. "Look, I’m a Donald Sutherland fan. I’m not going to try and be Donald Sutherland, because no one can be him. But I think the character he created is very complex… The complexity of that psychology, I hope I can echo in some way."

The most recent addition to the cast is Jhaleil Swaby as Panache. Whitney Peak, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Maya Hawke, Kelvin Harrison Jr., McKenna Grace, and Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, and Billy Porter also star.

"Whitney Peak, I got to meet her," Zada commented. "I'm sure I’ll be seeing a bit more of her."

The adaptation of Suzanne Collins' latest novel will be directed and produced by Francis Lawrence. "Everyone’s seen The Hunger Games. That’s the craziest part of it," the actor explained. "As much as it’s nerve-wracking, everyone loves this story, including myself, so it’s very exciting."

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.
