'Jurassic World Rebirth' sequel gets huge casting update

Jurassic World Rebirth was a prehistoric smash at the box office this summer, grossing more than $868 million worldwide. Despite Universal Studios having yet to officially confirm a sequel, a new report from InSneider suggests that the studio wants to reunite the entire cast one more time, including director Gareth Edwards.

Early rumors of a Jurassic World Rebirth sequel began floating around back in September, though nothing was ever greenlit. Still, our hopes didn’t go extinct. According to Insneider, the possibility now seems all but confirmed.

The report claims that Edwards is “in final negotiations to return for the sequel.” On top of his return, Universal allegedly wants to bring back the entire star-studded cast. That includes Scarlett Johansson returning as Zora Bennett, Oscar-winning Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, and People‘s latest Sexiest Man Alive Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis. This is the most we’ve gotten about a sequel so far, and oh boy are we ready to embark on another adventure through the island.

Edwards previously addressed rumors of a Rebirth sequel soon after the film’s release, admitting that “maybe there’s something in there.” With a strong franchise backing it up, the idea is not a total shot in the dark. Still, Edwards explained that there were no talks of a sequel. It was written as a standalone film.

“I’ve genuinely never talked about it with anybody. Not a single conversation with David Koepp or Frank Marshall or Universal about a sequel… All they want is for people to really like this movie and make the best film we can, and that’s it. And then it’s in the lap of the gods, everything else, really,” Edwards said.

Now, we’re not so sure that these “talks” are purely hypothetical anymore.
