Kacey Musgraves shares how she got her grandfather into Willie Nelson's poker game

We love Kacey Musgraves because she doesn't shy away from describing star-crossed, her new album out Friday, as being "f—ed celestially."

We also love her for getting her grandfather into one of Willie Nelson's famous poker games.

"[Nelson] is truly an icon," the six-time Grammy winner said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night. "I love him because he's just this great equalizer. He walks into the room, and I don't care where you're from, what background you're from, what kind of music you like, everyone loves Willie Nelson. He's just incredible."

"He's been incredible to me," Musgraves continued. "Actually, so a funny story is I got see my grandpa kick Willie Nelson's ass in poker one night. I was like, 'Do I root for my grandpa or my fantasy grandpa over here? Like, I don't know.' But it was incredible, and then my grandpa went back home to Texas and of course, you know, was the talk of the town after that."

This happened "a few years ago now" after Musgraves gave her grandpa "a little wad of cash" for Christmas to use as buy-in money for Nelson's poker game.

"Pop, actually, I really want you guys to send him all of your warmest thoughts and prayers," the Golden Hour star added on a somber note. "He is battling COVID right now at home. He is vaccinated, so I think he's gonna be OK, so we're just staying positive."

Hopefully listening to star-crossed can make Pops feel better.
