Katy Perry nearly falls mid-concert due to faulty prop

Maybe pop stars need to learn the lesson of "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark" and just stay on the ground during shows. Just the other day, Beyonce found herself in peril in her hometown of Houston when the "flying car" prop she rides over the audience started to tip over. Over the very same weekend, down in Australia, Katy Perry had a bizarrely-similar thing happen to her.

The evidence of this event comes from phone-captured videos posted on social media. Because these shows are so massive, the audiences so large, and the arenas so vast, they are completely lacking for intimacy. Musicians like Beyonce and Perry have taken to concocting elaborate ways of "getting closer" to their fans by getting off the stage and getting into some sort of airborne edifice. Beyonce has her car, while Katy Perry seems to be channeling "American Gladiators" with an Atlasphere.

Visually, Perry's sphere looks perilous if anything goes wrong, and that is what happened. Like Beyonce's car, the sphere began to list, and Perry had to hold on (like a contestant on "American Gladiators" playing Hang Tough) to avoid falling, possibly falling out of the sphere. Yeesh.

In the end, like Beyonce, Perry was safe. Somehow Perry ended up in more danger at a concert in Australia than she was when she went into space. We do wonder, though, if musicians will have any pause about gimmicks like this going forward.
