Kelsey Grammer gives update on upcoming 'Frasier' reboot

Paramount Plus confirmed in February that a Frasier revival series is happening, and Kelsey Grammer—Dr. Frasier Crane himself—gave a little glimpse into what fans can expect in this new Forbes interview.

"There's going to be some nuances that are different, but of course it will be the same basic guy," the 66-year-old acclaimed actor said. "We've got a script, and we're doing a polish on it."

Grammer said that "it's looking pretty good" for his former Frasier co-stars to join the reboot's cast, and he left the door open for Bebe Neuwirth, who played his ex-wife Lilith, to "grace us with her presence." 

The five-time Emmy winner—three of which for Frasier—also addressed how his character's iconic radio show will evolve with the present-day media landscape: 

"There is some discussion about that in the script actually, so we shall see. He's got a whole, sort of a new backstory because of the absence, the time span when he has been gone. There are several things we are going to catch up with that he went through during that decade and a half or so. Podcast may be in his future, I don’t know. There may be a podcast about the show that is in my future, I don’t know. We are talking about it."

Grammer debuted as Dr. Frasier Cane on Cheers in 1984, and he continued to develop the character across 202 episodes until the 28-time Primetime Emmy winner ended its 11-season run in May 1993. Frasier, a spinoff series, premiered in September 1993 and exceeded its predecessor in many ways before wrapping in 2004.
