LABUBU Movie In the Works at Sony Pictures

Labubu, bu, bu, bu… You know them, you love them, you definitely have heard of them. Love them or hate them, Labubus took the world by storm this summer. And now, they’re heading for Hollywood. Yes. The day we all knew would come is here. A Labubu movie is in the works at Sony Pictures. Now, while this may sound like another absurd toy-centric movie, and it well may be, the Labubus actually have a very rich lore to their name, and they are a kind of trickster elf. So, you know, who knows. Maybe a Labubu movie will actually be the next Gremlins of our time—a little adorable, a little horrifying, a lot inevitable. Here’s what we know about the Labubu movie so far.

Sony Pictures has apparently acquired screen rights to the Labubu brand—and currently has its sights on a Labubu movie and maybe even a franchise. I mean, honestly, we can see it. Like we said, there’s a rich text to the Labubu, and most interesting to interrogate, we feel, is the hypnotic spell they cast on all who hold them.

While Labubus have actually been around since 2015 and are celebrating their 10th birthday, it’s only recently that they more or less took over the world. In short, Labubus are characters created by artist Kasing Lung based on fairytales and myths from Nordic mythology. They are mischievous and ultimately good spirits/elves of a sort, who mean well but create chaos. Labubus are actually not demons, but they do kind of seem like it. But, like we said, the idea of a franchise based in Nordic folklore is not the wildest thing we’ve heard.

There’s no release date yet for the Labubu movie, but we suggest Sony Pictures aim for sooner rather than later. The Labubu craze is now.
