Courtney Love has lifted the lid on her unlikely friendship with Lana Del Rey — and the extraordinary favour the younger star once did for her.
Speaking on Billy Corgan’s The Magnificent Others podcast, the Hole frontwoman, 61, revealed she lived in Lana’s Malibu home rent‑free for an entire year.
She said: “I’m friendly with Lana Del Rey.
“In fact, I would call us really good friends, and she put me in her house in Malibu for a year rent‑free — like what the hell?”
Courtney said Video Games hitmaker Lana, 40, stepped in at a moment when she desperately needed to escape her life.
She explained: “She was really great at helping me get out of town because I needed to get out of the life.
“She’s got this upper‑middle‑class thing as well, so she could play these guys that were really harming my life.”
The singer didn’t hold back about how much Lana has done for her.
She said: “She’s done things for me that nobody has ever done in our business, particularly another woman.”
Despite their close bond now, Courtney hasn’t always been a fan of Lana’s music.
In a 2024 interview with The Standard, she admitted: “I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off. Up until Take Me Home, Country Roads I thought she was great. When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.”
