Valerie Cherish is back once more. "The Comeback" is coming back for the second time. HBO's cringe-inducing showbiz satire will be getting a third and final season, although at this point can we really rule out a fourth?
The first season of "The Comeback" debuted in 2005 and marked Lisa Kudrow's return to sitcom stardom after, you know, playing Phoebe on "Friends." She played Valerie Cherish, a one-time sitcom star who was documenting her attempt at a comeback on a reality show. It was critically acclaimed and cultishly adored, but HBO axed it after a season.
However, the cult grew, and got more passionate, and HBO probably figured it was worth getting Kudrow on the air again. "The Comeback" returned in 2014, but it was one and done once more.
With the way TV works now, it's not entirely surprising that "The Comeback" is getting another revival, though it is still a little surprising. A cult show getting not one, but two opportunities to rise from the dead remains unusual. Season three of "The Comeback" will hit HBO and HBO Max in 2026.
