Liza Minnelli Shares Powerful and Candid Love Stories in Upcoming 2026 Tell-All Memoir

The legendary Liza Minnelli is releasing a memoir next month, and it includes stories of her love life and multiple juicy love affairs. Minelli’s love life has never been private, with four high-profile marriages ending in divorce. But the in between is where it gets juicy. In the memoir “Kids Wait Till You Hear This,” Minnelli explains why she left her first husband and looks back on the wild affairs she had while married. Some of the Minelli lovers include Desi Arnaz Jr., Peter Sellers, and the famous movie director Martin Scorsese.

Hollywood Romance Secrets Revealed

The stories Minnelli lived through were not trending on the web in the 70s, but now, for her 80th birthday, she is retelling them in her own words.

In her new book, she goes into detail about her relationship with Desi Arnaz Jr. If the name sounds familiar, he is the son of the famous comic actress Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The two connected over growing up as children of famous parents. The two lovers, Minelli and Arnaz Jr., eventually became engaged and planned to marry. However, their whirlwind relationship occurred while the “New York, New York” star was still married to her first husband and engaged to another man.

According to People, in Minnelli’s book, she tells how she fell in love with Peter Sellers while in love with Arnaz Jr.:

“While in London in 1973, performing Liza with a “Z” at the Palladium, Peter Sellers, star of The Pink Panther and Dr. Strangelove, sat in the front row on opening night, and the two fell head-over-heels that same night. Soon they were engaged — even though she was still married to singer songwriter Peter Allen (who eventually told her he was gay) — and also engaged to another man, Desi Arnaz Jr.”

Minnelli’s relationship with both actors did not last long. Dropping two gems at once, “The Strile Cuckoo” actor admitted that the reason she separated from her first husband, Australian singer and songwriter Peter Allen, was after discovering he was gay.

But Minnelli found love again, remarrying in 1974 to Jack Haley Jr., the same year she divorced Allen. Again, Jack Haley Jr.’s name might sound familiar because he is a director and producer, and also the son of the Tin Man in “The Wizard of Oz.”

Liza “Maneater” Minnelli started another intense love affair while married to Haley Jr. In her memoir “Kids Wait Till You Hear This,” Minnelli goes into detail about her romance with director Martin Scorsese. According to Minnelli’s interview with People, she details the affair while working on the movie “New York, New York,” and in her book, she writes,

“Truth be told, our love affair had more layers than a lasagna. We were both Italian. Passionate. Intense. Committed to our craft. We both had volcanic tempers. He was a diabolically handsome man who shared my love for film.”

Minnelli Reflects on Toxic Marriage

Minnelli recalls her last marriage as toxic and a bad decision. She married concert producer David Gest in 2002, in a star-studded wedding attended by Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor.

But everything that glitters is not gold behind closed doors, Minnelli writes; her husband was controlling, and she was living as his prisoner. Despite her love life not ending in a happily-ever-after, the Hollywood legend is still open to love.
