If you’re into messy relationships, claustrophobic settings, and enough red flags to outfit a semaphore convention, you need to watch “Bone Lake.” After a brief theatrical run that had genre fans buzzing, this darkly comedic survival thriller is finally hitting Netflix on January 15, 2026.
At its core, “Bone Lake” taps into a very specific and very relatable fear we all have suffered once or twice: a vacation from hell. But this particular vacation isn’t about an Airbnb scam. In director Mercedes Bryce Morgan’s latest nightmare, things go from “awkward” to “bloody battle for survival” real quick. Prepare yourselves for a movie about love, sex, lies, and murder.
A couple heads off for a romantic getaway at a secluded lakeside estate draped in beautiful scenery, isolation, and zero cell service (…red flag one and two). A time for connection and relaxation gets thrown out the window when they’re forced to share the mansion with another couple (red flag three). And this added duo is described as “mysterious and attractive,” which in horror movie speak basically means “dangerous and will kill you with smiles on their faces.”
A classic cabin-in-the-woods slasher always has a fixed scenario, but “Bone Lake” points to a more psychological exploration into a couple’s retreat if a murderous couple tags along. The marketing heavily leans into the “romantic horror thriller” angle, promising a blend of seduction and violence that we don’t see executed well very often. It’s about the tension between these four people and the “darkly hilarious” tone that suggests the movie knows exactly how absurd its premise is and rolls with it.
Morgan’s horror romance will be joining Netflix on Jan. 15, 2026. “Bone Lake” may seem like a cabin slasher on the outside, but it holds more because of the psychological psychos. A couple who probably had John Kramer as their couple’s counselor, who dipped out halfway through the session. With the holidays long gone, what better way to distract yourself from the winter blues than watching beautiful people manipulate, seduce, and potentially murder each other in a fancy house?
