Lucie Arnaz, daughter of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, has a specific 'Being the Ricardos' critique

The rest of us won't see Being the Ricardos until it hits Amazon Prime Video, but Lucie Arnaz doesn't love everything she has seen of the Aaron Sorkin-directed feature film about her parents, the late Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball.

During an interview with Palm Springs Life published Wednesday (Aug. 18), Arnaz was asked about the resurgence of I Love Lucy during the pandemic, which led into a revelation about Being the Ricardos:

"Wouldn't they just be so proud? I'm sure they are. I mean, I know they know. And I'm sure that they've helped all of these other things come to fruition. I'm sure of that. The energy still exists, and they're a part of it. I know it. And when things don't happen right, I know they're a part of that too. I mean, there are certain scenes that I wished hadn't been in the feature film. I couldn't get my way and have them taken out, but they weren't accurate. And I thought, 'That shouldn't be in there, because that never happened. That's not true.' And it's not just theatrical license, it just wasn't true. And the day they shot the scene, the sprinklers went off on the set and destroyed the whole set."

She elaborated when asked by writer Jeremy Kinser what else she could reveal about the project:

"It takes place, primarily, during rehearsals for one of the shows. There are a few scenes where they're at their house in Chatsworth, before working, after working. There are two or three short flashback scenes to her life before I Love Lucy, when she worked on the radio show, when she was trying to convince the network to hire dad. But stuff happens that week that didn't happen altogether the way Aaron has written it. He's taking some theatrical license and sort of cramming a couple of true events that did happen, they just didn't happen at the same time. But you do learn a lot about what it was like back then. His dialogue is always incredible. And I think he treated my mother and my father really well. I think they are accurate composites of these people. And what I've seen of it... I haven't seen any of the rushes, but I was on the set for just two days. What I saw was extraordinarily classy and first rate. The people that he has cast are just really great performers."

Arnaz also credited Nicole Kidman as "astounding," doing "a spectacular job" and having "such poise and class" in portraying Ball for the film. Desi Arnaz is played by Javier Bardem.

Kidman previously opened up about how nervous she was to take on the role for Variety in June:

"I am way out of my comfort zone right now, Chris," the Oscar-winning actress said for her "Actors on Actors" conversation with Chris Rock. "I'm free-falling."

"Lucille Ball is hopefully funny," she continued. "The strange thing about Lucille Ball is that everyone thinks we're remaking the I Love Lucy show, and it's so not that. It's about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage. It's very deep, actually. ... She was a trailblazer. She formed her production company. Desi was Cuban, and she had to fight to get him on the show. They had just so many things in their marriage that are so relevant today, and what she was also dealing with in terms of everything that artists deal with, where you’re up against big corporations. And you’re like, 'No, this is art.'"

Bardem and Kidman were first attached to Sorkin's Being the Ricardos in January.

Arnaz and Ball starred together as Ricky Ricardo and Lucy Ricardo respectively on I Love Lucy from 1951-57. The couple were married for 20 years before divorcing in 1960, and they shared Lucie as well as one son, Desi Arnaz Jr.

Desi Arnaz died from lung cancer at 69 years old in 1986, and Ball passed away at 77 years old in 1989 from a ruptured abdominal aorta after heart surgery.
