Map Reveals Every U.S. State's Favorite Music Genre

Americans love all kinds of music. No matter where you are in the United States, you will be able to find someone who is a fan of a particular genre, no matter how niche.

There are several different ways to try and calculate which genre is most popular in each state, and ticket search engine site SeatPick has given it a shot in a new study.

How the study works?

SeatPick analyzed Google Trends state-level search interest for 18 different music genres over 12 months, up to Aug. 11, 2026.

“Each genre was measured independently, with scores indexed so that the state searching most for that genre scores 100,” the outlet said in a press release provided to Men’s Journal. “Each state was then assigned the genre for which it indexes highest relative to the rest of the country. Scores show how strongly a state searches for a genre compared with other states, not the total volume of searches, and are therefore not comparable between genres. Where two genres tie exactly, both are listed.”

1. Pop – 13 states
2. Metal – 11 states
3. Soul – 5 states
4. Country – 4 states
5. Indie – 3 states
6. Latin – 2 states
7. R&B – 2 states

Eleven other genres ranked or tied for the top spot in one state: rock, hip hop, EDM, folk, jazz, punk, reggae, bluegrass, gospel, blues and classical.

Unsurprisingly, on an individual level, Taylor Swift is the most popular pop artist–and most-searched artist in general–with over four million searches monthly around the United States. Next up is Bad Bunny, the most popular Latin artist, who averages 2.74 million searches monthly.
