The One Assassination Under God tour with Marilyn Manson is kicking off in the U.S. in mid-July. He has 18 dates in the states and threw in a show that’s in Mexico for good measure (and for his Mexican fans). He will be traveling to the UK for that part of his tour in late October. This past Saturday, his October 29th show in Brighton was cancelled after protests.

Marilyn Manson October 29th Show in Brighton

Due to protests (mostly online), the decision was made to cancel Marilyn Manson’s first UK opening show there. Full refunds will be issued to ticket holders for that night. Online campaign group ‘No Stage for Abusers’ petitioned the venue, the city, and parliament to cancel the show. MP Siân Berry wrote in part:

Many survivors in Brighton and Hove, and organisations supporting them, will have serious concerns about this booking and its wider impact on other people visiting the city centre, local residents and the wider community.

The letter goes on to say that Manson’s presence will not be welcomed in Brighton, due to disrespecting the survivors of sexual violence. The University of Sussex stood in support of this online campaign.

Allegations Against Marilyn Manson

The Antichrist Superstar singer is no stranger to controversy. Besides being the king of shock rock, R (and sometimes X) -rated videos, gender-bending images, gore, references to BDSM, and generally provocative lyrics in his songs, Manson strives to evoke a visceral reaction. He also attempts to make his listeners understand the meaning behind his lyrics.

Songs like “Disengaged,” “No Reflection,” and “Coma White” delve deeper into the singer’s psyche. They compel the listener to look beyond his shocking heterochromatic eyes (a.k.a. crazy contacts) and pale visage. Those who listen will be led to darker places of the artist’s despair, but then reassured that much of what he sings about is all fake, a sort of sham and drudgery of fame.

Allegations of sexual abuse came about in 2021, when actress Evan Rachel Wood publicly said that Manson’s abuse had continued for the majority of the three-plus years they were together. Wood stated that Manson had both physically and verbally abused her nonstop until she would give in. She also said it took her years to recount the trauma and get to a place where she was brave enough to address it.

Other women who have been with Manson have recounted anything from weirdly inappropriate behavior to sexual abuse. Manson’s personal assistant, Ashley Walters, alleged that Marilyn Manson had abused her by sexually grooming and psychologically manipulating her while she was his employee. However, two women who were with Manson, Rose McGowan and Dita Von Teese, did not report the same experience.

What About Marilyn Manson’s Other Upcoming Shows?

The singer does have a Bournemouth show planned for Halloween night. Millie Earl, the council leader for Bournemouth, is now asking for the show at Windsor Hall to be cancelled. So far, the Halloween night concert is still on, and it serves as the opening show for his UK leg of the tour.
