Marvel newcomer Ebon Moss-Bachrach received some advice on bringing to life an entirely computer-generated character from longtime franchise cast member Mark Ruffalo, who has played Bruce Banner/The Hulk since 2012's The Avengers.
"I got a really nice, very long, thorough text from Mark Ruffalo because my character is performance-capture, and I was a little anxious about that, it's something I've never done before," the actor shared during a press conference for Fantastic Four: First Steps. "Mark immediately, I don't know if somehow he got wind of my insecurity about it, and he was really generous and sort of went through the whole thing with me."
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired,
retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.
Moss-Bachrach, best known for his performance on FX's The Bear, is taking on the role of Ben Grimm/The Thing. The rest of the cast includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ralph Ineson, and Julia Garner.
Michael Chiklis played the role in 2005's Fantastic Four and 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Jamie Bell was next for 2015's Fantastic Four.
Moss-Bachrach has been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday alongside Pascal, Kirby, and Quinn. Ruffalo's last MCU appearance was in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and as of now, he has not been confirmed for Doomsday.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will land in theaters on July 25.
