After the news that Kelvin Harrison Jr. will be taking on the role of younger Beetee Latier, it has also been revealed today that Maya Hawke will officially be playing the younger version of Wiress in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The rest of the cast currently includes Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee.
THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
In the film adaptation of Catching Fire, the previous Hunger Games champion-turned-District 12 mentor was portrayed by Amanda Plummer. As for Beetee, Jeffrey Wright took on the role of the 34th Hunger Games winner and father of Ampert Latier, a tribute in the Second Quarter Quell. He appeared in Catching Fire and both parts of Mockingjay.
Suzanne Collins' Sunrise on the Reaping is the most recent prequel in her book series. Francis Lawrence returns to direct the adaptation, and Billy Ray, co-writer of The Hunger Games, will write the screenplay. Lawrence, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson produce.
Hawke is best known for her role as Robin Buckley in Stranger Things. The fifth and final season of the Netflix series is set to release this year, though an official premiere date is still unknown.
Harrison most recently can be seen in O'Dessa alongside Hawke's Stranger Things co-star, Sadie Sink. He will next executive produce and star as Jean-Michel Basquiat in Samo Lives.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. As of now, no former cast members are confirmed to reprise their roles, but the epilogue opens a real possibility for cameos.
